ZONOTRIKIA: INTERPRETING THE ENVIRONMENT
Zonotrichia capensis is the scientific name for the "chingolo". This small bird with gray head and white chest lives in all environments in Patagonia. It has been a symbol of Onas, tehuelches and mapuches mythologies. Now is a important cultural symbol for gauchos and the most resent residents of this land.
ZonotriKia is the name, chosen from this bird, to represent culture and ecology in an ecotourism enterprise. zonotriKia is a professional group made in Patagonia that investigates, develops and produces Ecotourism programs, Ecological Scientific Tourism and Ecoadventure products. We made a group of people who work for travel agency Argentina Visión in Puerto Madryn, wich we sell all of our products and services. Our main objective is the use of the resources for recreation and tourism. We have a compromise for local cultures and for our environment.
Each of our programs have been created according to the rules that nowadays "Responsible Tourism" and/or "Ecotourism" has. Each package has the shape suggested by national and international organizations for tourism and conservation and for Ecotourism management. Many of our methodologies have been adapted from the management directives created at international level by the "Ecotourism Society" and at national level by the state organisms that rules the Tourism, Reserves and untouchable areas.
We consider the Ecotourism an activity that contemplates as well culture as nature and the quality of our services means low impact to the region, that is the difference between real Ecotourism and the other kind of tourism that's developed nowadays in several places of the world and Patagonia.
Objectives: Any activity developed by zonotriKia that implies Ecotourism in any of its shapes, are conceived with the aim to reach three main objectives: To provide visitors the opportunity to enjoy and learn about local cultures and native animals, plants and ecosystems. To contribute with the conservation of culture and natural resources. To produce economical benefits an employment sources to the region.
