People that participate in research projects, from the experimental design to the publication of results, the ones who lived in the ranch for 6 months and those who stayed for a few days, the ones who had some notes and those who had "mate", the ones who passed and went away and the ones who still stay. |
| Two years of experiences | |
Two years of experience as a research group and as a human group. Two campaigns that included training, sampling, coexistence with the rural resident, the conception of the information transference, and the collaboration with other researchers. |
| Census of the population | |
It is the characterization of the study area. We analized the geographic reality of the penguin colony: its perimeter, absolut and relative density, area, type of nest and preferences. We determined the phisiography of the occupied area: vegetation cover, type of soil and diversity. |
| Activity rhythm | |
It is the rhythm of the penguins to enter and go out from the colony to the sea. We determined the existance of main access routes to the sea in order to build an interpretative trail that reached the sea. We calculated the hours with less penguin traffic in those sectors. |
| Tourist impact | |
It is a measurement of the potential effect of the tourist activity related to behavioral and population aspects of the penguins. We compared experimentally the reproductive success of visited areas with that of intangible areas. We designed a populational monitoring protocol. |
| Nest defence | |
It is the measurement of the penguin aggressiveness with the presence of intruders in different reproductive stages. We measured if there were differences of aggressiveness in the following conditions: a) males or females, b) ferrets, foxes, penguins or armadillos, c) chick or egg. |
